Prom Night - Over Rated Film
September 4, 2008
The other night i excitedly rented the film Prom-night. It received raves from every single person I know that went to go see this film in theaters. However I was fairly disappointed with the quality of the story line. The story line lacked depth and attention to detail. Some scenes just left you wondering and you had to come up with your own conclusion to things, which was annoying and confusing. When I pay to see a film i expect to be kept at the edge of my seat the whole way through, this movie did not offer this. Most scenes were derived from one the first very first scenes in the movie where to killer is murdering Britney Snows mother. Frankly, there is just too much piercing to the ears with girls high pitched screaming in practically every scene of the movie, very annoying. I do not recommend this film if you like thrillers, this movie is more of a chase the psycho sort of movie. Not something I would willingly waste my money another time.
X files the movie
September 3, 2008
I watched this movie last night. I expected a lot from this movie. But my expectation didn’t met. It is suspense but it’s like an ordinary movie we usually watched. I think the series is much better than the movie.
The story is not that fascinating. It is predictable. It is ordinary. But the acting ability of the actors and actresses are good. I like the way they portrayed their characters. It is well convincing.
I like the location because there are lots of things happens when there is snow. And given the credit, it’s hard to shoot a film in this area. The temperature is a big hindrance to overcome by the actors/actress and the staff.
The movie doesn’t give its viewers anything remarkable.
Mummy 3
September 1, 2008
I am not a fan of Mummy part 3: the return of the Emperor king. The effects is not as many as the part 1 and 2. The story line is not unusual. Because we always see movies that includes chinese cultures.
The son whom portrays on that movie is not that effective. I think there would be better actor who could play that role. I prepare the girl played in part 1 and 2 for the wife of Brendon Fraser.
This movie done a lot of changes. As a whole, it is not as spectacular than before. To compare it from the previous one, this part 3 movie is not good.
Love Guru
September 1, 2008
I watched this movie last night. It was a funny movie. Mike Myers did a good job for portraying as the love guru. I am surprise with Justine Timberlake because he was there acting. I’m not used to it watching him in that movie. I only know him performing as a singer. Jessica Alba is so gorgeous in this movie. She is sexy and I like her hair.
This movie is about a hockey team hires a love guru because one of its best player have problems in this area. In order to play well, they hire someone to do the job. The player should win his wife back and conquer his fear from his mother.
Of course, there’s always a happy ending. Jessica Alba and the Love Guru go together. The hockey team wins and the best player conquer his fear and win his wife back.
Doomsday (R: 2008)
August 19, 2008
Doomsday (2008: R)
Director: Neil Marshall. Starring: Caryn Peterson … Vagrant Girl; Adeola Ariyo … Nurse; Emma Cleasby … Katherine Sinclair; Christine Tomlinson … Young Eden Sinclair; Vernon Willemse … David / Gimp; Paul Hyett … Hot Dog Victim; and much more.
Alright, this one is a poor-hash of several flicks: Terminator meets Mad Max meets Escape from New York meets I am Legend. Can you get more creative? please? A lethal virus spreads throughout England infecting millions and killing hundreds of thousands. The authorities block off London and parts of Britain in hopes to quarantine the threat. The country turns to fear and chaos and creates their own world and civilization within the walls. Just like the premise and worldview from the flick “Escape from New York”. Three decades later and the Reaper virus surfaces in another major city outside the quarantine area. So an elite group of specialists go into the zone to retrieve a cure - and thus is the premise of the story. Sound familiar? too much. Yes. There are some artsy moments, and some of the costumery rock, but all in all this film lacks everything. Rating: 2 stars out of 5.

Teamed with the beautiful and thrill-seeking Hannah, they stumble upon an old mine that treacherously leads them to the Center of the Earth - a biosphere full of strange and prehistoric life that radiates amazement and passion. As they realize the temperatures are rising it becomes a deadly race to escape back to the surface. A wild journey awaits as they meet in-your-face creatures and pitfalls. Fun and adventurous, and the 3-D is certainly enlightening. Rating: 3.75 stars out of 5.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (R: 2008)

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (R:2008)
Director: Rob Cohen. Starring: Brendan Fraser … Rick O’Connell; Jet Li … Emperor Han; Maria Bello … Evelyn O’Connell; John Hannah … Jonathan Carnahan; Michelle Yeoh … Zi Juan; Luke Ford … Alex O’Connell; Isabella Leong … Lin; and many more.
The Mummy returns to the blockbuster screen with a new twist as the adventure goes to Asia instead of Egypt. The retired couple O’Connell’s decide to go back to work as they take an offer they couldn’t turn down where they are ployed into resurrecting the Han Emperor (Jet Li) and go through a quest ranging from the catacombs of ancient China into the frigid Himilayas. Rick (Brendan Fraser) reunites with his son who joins the adventure - Father, son, wife, brother - a family affair off to stop a 2,000 year old mummy curse that threatens the existence of life as we know it. An immortal double-crossing sorceress assists them in stopping the Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors that are the silent terra cotta army that comes alive. Great adventure and twists … even though I liked the first movies best, this one was worth its weight in terra cotta. Rating: 4 stars out of 5.
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (R: 2008)

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (R: 2008)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411477/
Starring: Ron Perlman … Hellboy, Selma Blair … Liz Sherman, Doug Jones … Abe Sapien / The Chamberlain / The Angel of Death, James Dodd … Johann Krauss, John Alexander … Johann Krauss, Seth MacFarlane … Johann Krauss (voice), Luke Goss … Prince Nuada, and many more. Director:Guillermo del Toro.
Envious and rebellious faery folk have decided to take back the dimensions from the humans and reclaim the world that was theirs. The villian (supposed Elf, but seems to be more of a dark draconian reptoid in my opinion) Prince Nuada confronts his father and sister in telling them its wrong to have let the humans take over the earth, and that he was going to take it back, and no one (not even his family) would stand in his way - regardless if it was breaking an oath and truce that the Fae and humans made long ago. He is on a quest to awaken and control the mythical Golden Army that exists with the ability to destroy the human race. Its brought to Hellboy’s attention and he of course races to save the day while juggling a heated passionate romance and an upcoming life change. Fighting elves, trolls, toothfairies, and otherworldly beasties - there is quite a bit of adventure and fantasy. My favorite being is the Nature God spirit which was killed off way too easily. Interesting plot as it plays off some themes in the prophetic Faerie great awakening rumored in Fairy lore to take place in the near future. The Director Dell Torro had quite a bit of imagination with the creation of this plot, a sequel and continuation to the infamous Hellboy comic series about “Hellboy” who is a creature alive in our world that comes from the otherworld. Perhaps it was the plot, but I far enjoyed this flick over the 1st Hellboy (which upon three attempts at watching all the way through fell asleep). Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5. Viewed 8/1/08.
Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008)
August 2, 2008
Apologies for being a little late with this review, but we’ve been battling a rotavirus all week. That said; let’s talk about the basic, cheesy good fun that is Journey to the Center of the Earth. This film is hardly the first version of Jules Verne’s novel to be delivered to the big or the small screen. The classic science fiction novel transported readers to a land of the lost (yes, pun intended) deep within the Earth where man-eating plants, dinosaurs and other dangers await intrepid travelers. The film is also available in 3-D and if you have that option at your local theater I highly recommend it.
I have to confess, I love Brendan Fraser. Whether he’s playing Rick O’Connell in the adventurous Mummy films, George of the Jungle,Adam from Blast from the Past, Dudley Do-Right, George of the Jungle or Rick Cabot in Crash, I enjoy his performances. He can take goofy characters and imbue them with such genuine warmth and humor that you find yourself rooting for them no matter what. In Journey to the Center of the Earth, Fraser portrays Trevor Anderson. Trevor studies plate tectonics (the movement of the Earth’s crust). His research is in danger of being shut down and he’s still missing his brother Max who went missing ten years before and about to spend a couple of weeks with his nephew (Max’s son).
Josh Hutcherson deserves a lot of credit in the role of Sean Anderson. He’s 13 and he behaves like most other 13 year olds would when he gets stuck with his Uncle. When Sean’s mother drops him off, she also drops off a box of Max’s stuff that she wants Trevor to have. Trevor discovers Max’s copy of Jules Verne’s novel with notations made throughout the margins. The notations mean something to Trevor and soon, he and Max are flying Iceland to begin a journey that will change their lives.
Good, Cheesy Fun This is a cotton candy summer film. It’s intense, like a really satisfying roller coaster ride (and I wouldn’t be remotely surprised if we don’t see this is as an attraction at a Disney park sometime in the near future). There’s some sad moments and some scary moments (the giant piranhas are pretty tough for younger kids), but ultimately it’s a fluffy adventure fun.
What I Liked The relationship between Trevor and Max didn’t feel forced. Their guide played by Anita Briem brought some good fun to the table. I loved the special effects and the falling scenes were ’scary’ but hilarious at the same time. The blending of humor with the scary took the edge off.
What I Didn’t Like I could have lived without the dinosaur drool. But the kids in the audience were suitably grossed out and pleased at the same time, so I’m probably in a minority on this one.
Parents Take Notice The film is PG and the language is very tame. There’s a really funny joke about ’schist’ rock formations that earns the titter it deserves and that’s about it. Kids under 8 may be a little intimidated by the piranhas (it’s a fairly intense sequence) and by the dinosaur pursuit. My daughter experienced the former more than the latter.
Barney Fun and Games
August 2, 2008
Barney has been a childhood friend for some time now. His jolly character and cuddly appearance is very inviting to children. He has been known to make both the young and old at heart smile with joy.
Barney shows and videos have been long loved by children and parents. They offer fun, excitement, and educational values.
The Barney movie “Fun and Games” displays his typical movie pattern in that it features Barney, Baby Bop, and a group of children.
Barney comes to life and creates a fun filled adventure for the children. He promises to show them his game machine but to their disappointment it is not working properly.
The children must search for games to add to the machine to make it work. They find many different items and have great fun along the way. While searching for items, the children take part in playing some other games and singing songs. The mood is very positive and upbeat with music as most of Barney’s videos are.
Once the game machine gets full, the play yard turns into a huge game board for the children. They take turns playing as the game pieces. As the children land on piece they are prompted to play different life size games.
In their games the children fly airplanes, play “Ten in the bed” and more.
At the end, Baby Bop discovers that she had dropped her yellow blanky in the game machine.
This is a very positive video. While it does not offer as much educational value as some of the others, it does feature good character skills.
It also features some songs and games that your children will likely recognize.
The video is of longer length (43 minutes) and sure to keep your child interested for most of the time.
