Dragonfly (2002)
April 2, 2010
Dragonfly is about a married couple who are both doctors. Kevin Costner plays the role of Joe Darrow, and Susanna Thompson, as Emily Darrow. They have a good relationship despite putting in a lot of hours at the hospital.
Emily is the doctor of the children’s ward for terminally ill kids. She decided to go on a mission for the Red Cross in Venezuela to help with those who needed medical treatment. She knew that helping people was her calling. Although her husband did not agree with her going on this mission, he still supported her endeavors.
Unfortunately, Joe lost his wife in a tragic accident. He tried to deal with the situation and even planned on going on a whitewater rafting trip, until weird things started occurring.
Emily had a talking bird that would only talk when she came through the door. The bird begins talking for no reason which made Joe think of Emily’s presence in the home.
With all that was occurring, Joe believed that his wife was trying to tell him something. Joe was of the Atheist faith and he did not believe in any higher power.
Do you think Joe will take a leap of faith to see what this force is calling him to do?
Dragonfly was directed by Tom Shadyac and up for one nomination in 2003. It’s a powerful, must-see movie that will linger in your thoughts long after the credits roll.
“Teen Witch”
March 14, 2010
“Teen Witch” is a movie based on a young girl named Louise Miller, played by Robyn Lively, who is not popular among her peers in high school. Louise has a crush on popular football player, Brad, played by Dan Gauthier. She knows an unpopular girl such as herself could never get the chance to date a guy like Brad.
One windy night she was riding her bike home and she had a flat tire. This is when Louise’s life took a turn for the better, if not the unknown. Louise goes to a psychic lady’s home to get help, but what Louise did not know was that her powers were looking for her. She had inherited powers, and she was a witch already.
The psychic woman Madame Serena, played by Zelda Rubinstein, informed Louise that on her sweet 16th birthday that her powers would be strong. She would gain the ability to become the most popular girl in school. With this power, she could make Brad love her.
After Louise’s 16th birthday she was the most popular girl in school and every girl wanted to be like her. You’ll have to watch the movie to see the outcome and to know if Louise got Brad, the guy of her dreams. Often, the most powerful part of a person lies within themselves and not in trickery.
“Teen Witch” took me back to my high school years and was an enjoyable nostalgic story. I recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys light-heartedness blended with a twist of learning a valuable lesson.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
March 9, 2009
This wonderful family classic The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian starts with a feeling a dread and boredom. The children, once adult kings and queens of Narnia, find themselves having to live the lives of children in post-WW2. The opening scene shows how the wisdom that was gleaned as adults has slipped away and reduced to pubescent brawling.
As fate would have it, the siblings are once again transported to Narnia, only it is not the Narnia they remember. The animals are now hostile, an uprising in on the horizon, and Peter, Edmund, and Susan still do not listen to infallible insight of the youngest, Lucy.
During the adventures, pride becomes infectious, hope is deferred, anger prevails, yet love finds a way through it all. The directors and writers have the ability to engage the viewer and soon he/she finds him/herself on an emotional roller coaster. When the credits roll and the popcorn bags are empty, the viewer is left with the overall sensation that all will be well with the world and love will find a way.
What Dreams May Come Review
February 24, 2009
The movie, What Dreams May Come, is one of my favorites for movies. The movie, What Dreams May Come, has some incredible graphics in it. That is one of the things that I like so much about it. You will be amazed at how well the graphics and putting things together is done. It is so realistic, even though you know it’s not.
In this movie, Robin Williams plays the part of Chris Nielsen. He makes a journey that is guided by Cuba Gooding Jr., who plays the part of Albert Lewis. It is through this journey, Chris tries to save his wife from the after-life destination after she committed suicide.
You can learn alot about your own values, morals and even theological beliefs from the movie, What Dreams May Come. It is in this movie that many of my ideas were actually challenged.
Yet, if you just want to kick back and relax, What Dreams May Come is also good for that as well. You don’t have to literally sit back and think about all of it. It’s very entertaining and enjoyable just as a movie.
What Dreams May Come is 113 minutes and is rated PG-13 because of the death theme and some graphic images.

The Unborn (R:2009)
Written by/Director David S. Goyer. Starring: Odette Yustman … Casey Beldon; Gary Oldman … Rabbi Sendak; Meagan Good … Romy; Cam Gigandet … Mark Hardigan; Idris Elba … Arthur Wyndham; Jane Alexander … Sofi Kozma; and many more.
- “Sometimes the soul of a dead person has been so tainted with evil that it is denied entrance to heaven. It must endlessly wander the borderlands between worlds, desperately searching for a new body… “
One of my favorite horror and mythological themes: the opposite alternative doppleganger-like being that lives in the otherworldly realm with portals into our world by means of mirrors. I’m not sure why I’m obsessed with the mirror-being, doppleganger type entities lore and tales, but I am. This movie definitely has some intriquing twists and ideas behind those legends/beliefs. Its a story about a twin, who doesn’t know she’s a twin. Cursed by a family lineage of twins afflicted by Nazi occultism/experimentation that opened a portal in the past for a evil-doppleganger like entity called a “dybbuk”, a malevolent spirit that refuses to leave the human world and inhabits the body of a person, until it can find a way to be “born”. First haunting his twin sister by dreams and then visions, she goes through a disturbing fight for survival as she wraps herself around Jewish mysticism in order to have the “dybbuk” exorcized from her. Good effects and a good plot. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5.

January 20, 2009

In this story a married couple has to prove that they can take care of a real baby, by taking care of robot baby. The two characters in this story are Marcia(played by Tamlyn Tomita) and Roy (James Saito). The other stories are “The Robot Fixer”, “The Machiene Love” and “Clay”. This film has been produced by Karin Chein and Kim Ima. The film is strongly recommended to everyone. The stories in the film are great and the actor performances are superb. Interstate 60: Episodes of the Road (R: 2002)

Director: Bob Gale. Starring: Matthew Edison … Quincy, Paul Brogren … Zack, Wayne Robson … Tolbert (Deep Stomach), Gary Oldman … O.W. Grant, Michael J. Fox … Mr. Baker, James Marsden … Neal Oliver, Melyssa Ade … Sally, and many more.
Rated R for language and sexual references.
Gale brings together an insightful modern movie about the whole entity that grants wishes - but this time, an American legend of one. No Genii in the bottle. No Leprauchaun, but America’s own O.W. Grant - a trickster compiled of all the tricksters of world mythology. He’s half-leprechaun and he smokes a pipe with smoke and glowing eyes that is representative of the Djinni. Quote from Neal in the movie: Given an infinite universe and infinite time, all things will happen. That means that every event is inevitable, including those that are impossible. And it’s as good an explanation for all of this as anything else. Now, a lot of stories start in bars, so that’s where we’re going to start this one. Not because I was there - I wasn’t. But because it’s a damn good introduction to a very unique… fellow. While the story is interwoven with various tales about others who were affected my this magical O.W. Grant, it focuses on a young artist named Neal. Neal is bombarded by pressures from his father to choose a different profession, and he can’t seem to get the guts up to stand up to dear old Dad. But then Neal meets O.W. Grant. Grant offers everyone he meets “one” wish as his name implies. Neal’s wish is for “answers”. So he is routed to take a road trip on the non-existent Interstate 60 upon which he seeks to find the girl of his dream that seems to appear on every blank billboard over his journey. He runs into bizarre towns and hillarious sitations including a town of lawyers ready to sue everyone for anything, and a town that is all about a Rave drug called Euphoria. It has character and elements of “Drop Dead Fred” but much more mild. I rather thoroughly enjoyed this tale. Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

Director: Mathieu Kassovitz. Starring: Vin Diesel … Toorop, Michelle Yeoh … Sister Rebeka, Mélanie Thierry … Aurora, Gérard Depardieu … Gorsky, Charlotte Rampling … High Priestess, Mark Strong … Finn, Lambert Wilson … Darquandier, and many more.
Here is the future. Another apocalyptic, commercialism takes over America, war and strife takes over Russia and much of the rest of the world. Your passport is embedded into your body. Cloning is commonplace on several generations. Machines and humans are merged to where you can’t tell the difference. America prospers while the rest of the world seems to be in decay. Then there is Vin Diesel … with that I’m sure you can predict the synopsis and plot that follows from there. Vin Diesel plays a veteran turned mercenary who just wants to be left alone, but is persuaded in yet another task, yet another adventure. His job is to escort a woman from Russia to New York - across the bering straight, across borders illegally by means of a Russian sub, gun wars and nabbing the woman throughout. Turns out the woman has a twin-virgin birth that some cult wants to make their messiah. Everyone is after the woman. Vin Diesel falls in love with her. Some supernatural properties become involved. The film was totally predictable. Rating: 3 stars out of 5.
