Madea’s Family Reunion
April 17, 2010
“Madea’s Family Reunion” is a Tyler Perry Production film released in February 2006.
The movie is about two sister’s (Lisa and Vanessa) played by Lisa Arrindell Anderson and Rochelle Aytes. These sisters’s have a close bond with each other, despite their mother’s hateful tactics and cruel secrets.
Lynn Whitfield starred in the role as the mother, Victoria, who adored the one daughter (Lisa) and considered Vanessa a disgrace to the family. She believed in the finer things in life and did whatever it took to get them.
Vanessa was a hard-working mother for her two kids that were out of wedlock. She lived with her crazy grandmother Madea and Grandpa Joe, both played by Tyler Perry. Vanessa tried so hard to win her mother’s love, despite her feelings of the past–her mother traded Vanessa’s innocence at a young age to keep her husband from leaving the family.
Strangely, a man who drove the transit bus that Vanessa would ride to work took an interest in her. This strange man asked her out on a date, although she was hesitant on going out with him. He was a single father as well, and in time, won her heart.
He taught her how to love again and extend that love to even her mother who had forsaken her.
Lisa lived with her fiancé Carlos, who was a successful banker she met through her mother. Carlos was nice in public to Lisa, but was physically and emotionally abusive to her at home. She stayed quiet about her problems with her fiancée to keep her mother happy. She was supposed to get married to this man, but after numerous beatings, her heart became like stone and could no longer bare to keep this a secret.
This movie is a dynamic film with lessons of love, dignity, and the value of family. I thought Tyler Perry did an outstanding job with all the characters he portrayed in the film.
Boomerang
April 17, 2010
“Boomerang” is a comedy/ romance film starring Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy plays the role of Marcus, a successful advertising executive.
Although Marcus has a great life and career, he is never content with one woman. He has high standards for the women he meets, preferably women with nice feet.
When the company takes on a big merger, Jacqueline, played by Robin Givens, is the new boss in town. Marcus is a little intimidated by her bossy ways, given that he has been at the job longer than her. Above all that, Marcus thinks she is an attractive woman that will not get involved with him.
Despite all of Marcus’s wrongful schemes when getting what he wants from women, he portrayed himself to Jacqueline as a perfect gentleman. Marcus did succeed in getting Jacqueline to sleep with him, but what he failed to realize is that she wanted to be intimate without strings attached. Marcus began feeling used, hurt that she did not want to have a monogamous relationship with him.
Jacqueline hired a new assistant named Angela, played by Halle Berry. Angela worked with Marcus and Jacqueline and realized something is going on between the two of them. She knew Marcus really liked Jacqueline and Angela felt bad that his heart was broken by Jacqueline’s heartless actions.
Marcus wanted to hook Angela up with one of his best friends, Gerard, played by David Allen Grier, but Angela just liked him as a friend.
Then the drama begins when Marcus invited Angela, Gerard and his family over for dinner. After dinner Marcus asked Angela if she would stay to help clean up from dinner. Angela agreed, but emotions raised and Marcus and Angela became intimate and started seeing each other.
Did Marcus finally realize what love was with Angela, or did he sabotage the relationship he had with her for Jacqueline?
Dragonfly (2002)
April 2, 2010
Dragonfly is about a married couple who are both doctors. Kevin Costner plays the role of Joe Darrow, and Susanna Thompson, as Emily Darrow. They have a good relationship despite putting in a lot of hours at the hospital.
Emily is the doctor of the children’s ward for terminally ill kids. She decided to go on a mission for the Red Cross in Venezuela to help with those who needed medical treatment. She knew that helping people was her calling. Although her husband did not agree with her going on this mission, he still supported her endeavors.
Unfortunately, Joe lost his wife in a tragic accident. He tried to deal with the situation and even planned on going on a whitewater rafting trip, until weird things started occurring.
Emily had a talking bird that would only talk when she came through the door. The bird begins talking for no reason which made Joe think of Emily’s presence in the home.
With all that was occurring, Joe believed that his wife was trying to tell him something. Joe was of the Atheist faith and he did not believe in any higher power.
Do you think Joe will take a leap of faith to see what this force is calling him to do?
Dragonfly was directed by Tom Shadyac and up for one nomination in 2003. It’s a powerful, must-see movie that will linger in your thoughts long after the credits roll.
“Teen Witch”
March 14, 2010
“Teen Witch” is a movie based on a young girl named Louise Miller, played by Robyn Lively, who is not popular among her peers in high school. Louise has a crush on popular football player, Brad, played by Dan Gauthier. She knows an unpopular girl such as herself could never get the chance to date a guy like Brad.
One windy night she was riding her bike home and she had a flat tire. This is when Louise’s life took a turn for the better, if not the unknown. Louise goes to a psychic lady’s home to get help, but what Louise did not know was that her powers were looking for her. She had inherited powers, and she was a witch already.
The psychic woman Madame Serena, played by Zelda Rubinstein, informed Louise that on her sweet 16th birthday that her powers would be strong. She would gain the ability to become the most popular girl in school. With this power, she could make Brad love her.
After Louise’s 16th birthday she was the most popular girl in school and every girl wanted to be like her. You’ll have to watch the movie to see the outcome and to know if Louise got Brad, the guy of her dreams. Often, the most powerful part of a person lies within themselves and not in trickery.
“Teen Witch” took me back to my high school years and was an enjoyable nostalgic story. I recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys light-heartedness blended with a twist of learning a valuable lesson.
Reba – Season 6 on DVD
September 9, 2009
Fans of the popular TV series, Reba are thrilled with the release of season 6 on DVD this past June. The American sitcom is set in Houston, Texas.
The talented singer Reba McEntire plays Reba Hart, a divorced mother of three children. Her husband Brock, played by Christopher Rich, is a dentist. Unfortunately, he practiced more than dentistry at work and had an affair with his hygienist, Barbara Jean, played by Melissa Peterman. Barbara Jean becomes pregnant and Brock and Reba’s marriage is over.
Barbara Jean plays a major comedic role in this series. She also plays a major pain in Reba’s life, yet thinks of Reba as her best friend. Even though Brock and Reba are divorced, somehow their lives are still very much weaved together.
Cheyenne, played by Joanna Garcia, is the oldest daughter. She got pregnant in high school by Van Montgomery, played by Steve Howey. They are a rather ditzy couple living in Reba’s house with their baby, Elizabeth. The younger daughter, Kyra becomes resentful and moves in with her Dad and Barbara Jean. Jake, played by Mitch Holleman, is the youngest and adds a sweetness, yet sometimes mischievous touch to the show.
This series is full of good comedy, great acting and sometimes tears. In my opinion, this is one of the best sitcoms to hit the TV screen. It’s a show that relates to real situations and the will to survive, with a strong comedic touch.
Yes Man Movie Review
February 24, 2009
The movie, Yes Man, is very uplifting and inspiring at the same time. Even though Jim Carrey makes this movie funny in many parts, it does have a serious theme. You will find that you are laughing a great deal through the movie, Yes Man.
Jim Carrey plays the role of Carl Allen. Carl is focused on the present. He is rather anti-social. His life is at a virtual stand-still. His friend from the past asks Carl to attend a seminar with him. It is free.
At first, Carl takes the ideas of the seminar too far. He says Yes to everything in his life. His friends take advantage of him in the movie, Yes Man. But then things eventually balance out. I won’t give away the ending to the movie and spoil it for you.
This is a great movie to watch. It teaches you about balance. However, it’s not an in your face type of movie. Yes Man, is even a movie that teens could learn from. You will be laughing and learning at the same time when you watch the movie, Yes Man, with Jim Carrey.
Jumbo
February 10, 2009
Another animation (a good one though) goes into the credit list of the Indian cinema. The movie Jumbo is about a fat, blue colored, young elephant named Jaiveer, who loves playing with frogs and is in his own dream world where there are loads of fun and fun around. Everything is happy around him but one thing disturbs Jumbo the most, that he is without a father. It was rumored that his father was a coward and had ran away from the elephant community. This is not well digested by Jumbo who decides to venture out in search of his father.
Jaiveer sets on a journey to the human camp close to the jungle. Unluckily he fails in his quest. On his way back home, he meets a pink, pretty eyed elephant Sonia (now every hero however fat and round deserves to have a heroine right?). Sonia, who by the way despises being called Pinky accompanies Jumbo back home only to find his mother gone. So the friendly Sonia takes the crestfallen Jumbo to her home - a village full of good humans.
Jaiveer sets his journey to the human camp, close to the jungle. Unfortunately he fails in his motive. On his way back, he meets a pink, pretty girl elephant, Sonia and he falls for her. This was quite obvious because our Bollywood films are incomplete without heroines, you see (and we are proud of it).
So, Jumbo and Sonia come back and find that his mother is gone. So Sonia, who also starts developing feelings for Jumbo takes him to her home - a village full of good humans.

January 26, 2009
Today the movie that I am going to review is a drama film “Aberdeen” which was released in the year 2000. The movie has been directed by Hans Peter Mollan and written by Kristin Amundsen and Lars Bill Lundhom. First let me tell you what is Aberdeen. Aberdeen is a city located in Scotland. The story is that Kaisa (played by Lena Heady) at a highly ranked London Law Firm. Her husband Tomas (Stellan Skarsgard) is a massive drinker and he is unemployed. He doesn’t like to see Kaisa working and criticizes her alot. He also seals her money and sometimes even do vomitting on her clothes. This depresses Kaisa alot. She wants her husband to undergo a detoxification program and have a proper medical treatment but, Tomas doesn’t show any response.
The main part of the film starts when they decide to go from Oslo to Scotland. On the Oslo airport, they are prevented from getting onboard the plain because of the drunked condition of her husband now they have to go to Oslo via a car. In car different events happen but, that is upto you to find out.
Overall, it is a great movie and you will really enjoy watching it. This is a comedy movie which is a bit on the emotional side too. So, make sure you don’t miss this one.
Anything Else
January 23, 2009
Anything Else” is a nice romantic comedy film directed and written by Woody Allen and produced by Letty Aronson. The film features Jason Biggs and Christina Ricci as the main stars. The film not only has a strong film star lineup but, a very strong story and direction too. The story is that Jason Biggs plays the role of Jerry Falk, who is a young writer and falls in love with Amanda (played by Christina Ricci) who is also not an ordinary girl. The relationship between them is very complex and the rest of the film is about Jerry figuring out ways to prove his love for Amanda. Woody Allen has also played a role in the film and help Jerry Falk in solving his problems. The film was not such a big hit and was not very well received by the critics. But, overall i think it is a nice film and you will enjoy it.
