“In the Name of Love: A Texas Tragedy” is about two people, Luke and Laurette, who fall in love for all the wrong reasons. Luke and Laurette are played by Michael Hayden and Laura Leighton.
Luke comes from a wealthy family, and Laurette just lives life on the edge. Luke became crippled after a car accident with his fiancée that left him having to walk on a cane. Since the accident left him disabled, his fiancée no longer wanted to be with him and their relationship came to an end.
Luke meets an attractive woman (Laurette) at a party. They end up falling in love and getting married. Laurette puts pressure on Luke to leave his family. She wants him to get the land he inherited from his grandparents that he rightfully deserves. This would mean they could have a better life without being told what to do. Luke’s grandfather disagrees with the plan, and Laurette wants to file for a divorce.
After all the drama, they decide to live together in the house close to Luke’s grandfather. The grandfather gives Luke an ultimatum that he either leaves Laurette and stays, or he goes with her and leaves with nothing at all. He said that Laurette was only going to ruin Luke’s life.
Did Laurette and Luke prove the grandfather wrong, or does Luke take his grandfather’s advice? This movie has a valuable lesson. That lesson is love is measured by one’s heart, not by material gain.
