Six Feet Under (HBO series)

I recently had my first taste of HBO’s dark comedy, titled Six Feet Under on DVD. The series is about the Fisher family who operates a funeral home. Each episode is based on someone who has died, the Fisher’s funeral home and subsequent circumstances.

The Fishers are a dysfunctional family, yet each character plays well against the other. Friends and lovers of the Fisher family are also involved, which makes some interesting, if not bizarre, story lines.

While I found this to be an interesting show, I also found it a bit creepy. Seeing a foot chopped off a corpse isn’t exactly my thing, nor the very visible penis of a dead man.

The show definitely has comedic value, as well as some realism. I didn’t like the overuse of foul language, but maybe it’s suited to this type of show. Despite some of the negatives, I found myself engaged with the characters. I just wasn’t always ready for some of the oddities, which seems to be the basis of the show.

Six Feet Under won numerous awards and received consistently top-notch ratings for HBO.
