Movie Review — Defiance

Defiance kept me on the edge of my seat when we went to see it in the theater. It was rather long but at the same time it really moved quickly. I really enjoyed watching Defiance and the message that it sent was superb.

The Belski brothers unite to help protect and save Jewish residents from the Nazi concentration camps. Hiding out in the woods, the number of Jewish residents increase. There is the battle to stay hidden from the Nazi’s, feed everyone and stay warm in the winter months.

After a bit the Belski brothers clash. They go their separate ways helping the Jewish resistance and survival. Later, well we won’t ruin it for you.

Defiance really lets you see yet another side of the Nazi concentration camps and the types of things that the Jewish had to endure to be able to survive. For example, they were not allowed to have children while they were all in the woods because it would be impossible to keep a baby safe and fed. Others took “wood wives” and had ceremonies to concentrate relationships and keep to their faith.

Defiance will really make you appreciate what you have in life and realize just how important freedom truly is.
