Iron Man out on DVD

September 30, 2008

Iron Man, starring Robert Downey, Jr., came out on DVD today. We haven’t been buying many movies lately but we had to have this one! Rarely am I as pleased with spending the money to see a movie in the theatre as I was when we saw this movie.

Tony Stark is kidnapped by terrorists and told to build a weapon for them like the one he has already built for Stark Industries. Instead, he builds an iron man. I have to say that I had never really found Robert Downey, Jr. to be that attractive but when he gets all hot and sweaty as a blacksmith to build his metal man my heart skipped a beat. Tony Stark then escapes back home and builds a new and improved Iron Man to fight the bad guys. And fight he does.

This movie is funny and will have you laughing right from the beginning. It has action that will have you cheering at the screen and the relationship between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts is fantastic. Gwyneth Paltrow plays Pepper Potts and I am so glad that they put such a big name actress into a role that would normally not have an A-list actress. She made the part and the chemistry between her and Robert Downey, Jr. is fantastic.

I highly reccommend this movie though I’m not sure how good it would be for young children. It is the best based on a comic book movie I have ever seen. Not one of the best. The Best.

Stripes is still one of my favorite movies

September 30, 2008

The movie Stripes is still one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. Made in 1981, it has one of the best casts of any 80’s movie: Bill Murray, John Candy, and Harold Ramis just to name a few. The movie is about to guys that join the Army because their lives are going nowhere. They run in to nothing but trouble most of the way and end up becoming war heroes by the end of the movie. In my opinion, these actors were the very best of the 1980’s and never have they been topped by anyone. They do not make comedies like this anymore. Pretty soon this kind of humor will be lost forever with a previous generation of people. This movie is, at least, a must rent for a night of laughs. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Babylon A. D.

September 30, 2008

Babylon A. D. is the new movie from the director Mathieu Kassovitz (Gothika, The Fifth Element, La Haine) with Vin Diesel, Mélanie Thierry, Michelle Yeoh. The story :
Toorop has delivered many fights and he has survived many wars which are destruyed the world since the beginning of the 21st centuries. The mafia, who rules the East Europe, hires Toorop for a difficult mission. The mission is to conduct safely a mysterious young girl named Aurora from Russia to New York and he has to deliver her to a mighty religious order…
The movie is an adaptation from the famous book of the writer Maurice G. Dantec called Babylon Babies and after reading it, Mathieu Kassovitz decided to put it in the big screen. The movie will have 2 different final cuts, the reason is that in US, The Fox has the final cut and in the Europe, the director has his own cut.

Gridiron Gang

September 29, 2008

A group of juvenile trained inside a boys institution plays football against schools outside their jail. A former college football star (The Rock) who works in that jailed, coached this football team full of young criminals. Their first days of training were hard and undisciplined. Dealing with different races and gangs, violence within the team was unavoidable. With the constant team-spirit speeches, the group became one. Their first game against a good school football team was a disaster for them. I think they’ve won their third game when things gone smoothly for their team, the Mustangs. The highlight for me would be when a gang member went inside the field and shot one of the Mustangs. A tragedy for the team and a test for their changing lives. The moral: people can change for the good, even inside an institution. Peace.

What do you think of this new Star Trek movie?

September 28, 2008

So I was just reading about this new Star Trek movie that’s going to be out next year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_(film) . What do you think? Haven’t they done this whole ‘prequel” thing before without much fanfare or success? I would have thought that Enterprise would have killed that idea. I think Star Wars does a much better job of going backwards. The problem with this movie is the technology is probably going to appear much more advanced than before. Plus getting used to our old characters being portrayed by new actors? Wow, won’t that take some getting used to? We’ll just have to see how this turns out!

Music and Lyrics

September 28, 2008

A “plant-girl” turned to a lyricist overnight and a comebacking-new wave era-guy, met to create what the title of the movie is, more or less, what’s about. I don’t know anything about Cora the popstar who they made their song to. That’s why I love being online while I write/blog so I can search what or who gives…
Drew Barrymore – She’s really good with this romantic-comedy movies stuff. 50 First Date, Never Been Kissed, Ever After, Charlie’s Angels?…
Hugh Grant – isn’t really the top actor for me, but he been with top ladies I may say. Julia Roberts on Nothing Hill, Sandra Bullock (2 Weeks Notice?), Renee Zellwegger (Jones Diary) and I forgot the rest.
This movie made their theme song by making a movie about their theme song. Ain’t that creative or what. And for a romantic-comedy, I rate this movie 4 out of 5 stars for keeping me watch it before I go out to the office.

Paris 36

September 26, 2008

Paris 36 is a french movie from the director Christophe Barratier (Les Choristes) with Gérard Jugnot, Clovis Cornillac, Kad Merad.
In 1936, in a poplular suburb in the north of Paris, the Front Populaire is going to celebrate the most important election. It is at this moment that 3 unemployed workers in the show world decide to take by themselves the music hall where they worked before. By taking it by force, they plan to make a particular and normally successeful show, the theater will be the place for all surprises.
Christophe Barratier has surprised us with his last movie called Les Choristes. Now with Paris 36, he is going to repeat it again with a script a little different from the other one but in the same kind of musical comedy. The movie will be in your favorite theater next year.

Dragonball, the movie

September 25, 2008

Yes, fans of Dragonball, you read well, a movie will be done based on the famous japonese manga !!! The movie will be directed by James Wong (Final Destination, The One).
A quick resume to refresh our mind and to provide more informations for people who doesnt know anything about this manga. Dragonball is about a young boy called San Goku, who is an art martial warrior with extraordinary powers, looking for the crystal balls around the world by fighting enemies more powerful than him. When all the balls are reunited, an imperial dragon will appear to grant a wish but San Goku hides also a dark secret. During the full moon, he changes himself into a giant and uncontrollable gorilla who can destroy the earth !!!
The movie will not differ a lot from the original manga, indeed San Goku will have to protect the Earth against Piccolo and his army because Piccolo wants to dominate the universe by finding the crystall balls. The movie will have a lot of effect and if you want to watch it you have to wait until april 2009.

Survivor Philippines

September 23, 2008

This is such a great show. I love the concept though it was just a copied one from the original Survivor show. The host was really a good one. He’s the best one in this kind of show. Though the other so called cast away was almost showing some tensions between them I think it was just human and anyone will be irritated if you are in that situation. So I might better continue watching this one.

For the first time

September 23, 2008

I haven’t seen this movie yet and I really don’t have plan watching this. I don’t like the stars in this movie. Though this one has become a huge success here and according to the producers it was also a hit in other cities. Well, what more can we say if this movie For The First Time was a great success…maybe congrats to the first timers?
