We need to be practical in everything nowadays. Every week, there’s a price increase in fuel. Prices of food, fresh products or even canned and preserved goods, have been increasing as well. As consumers, we can’t do anything but go with the flow, and stretch our budget as much as we can.

As parents, we want the best for our little ones. Of course, who doesn’t want to celebrate the first birthday of their kids? But then, we also have to consider the cost of holding birthday parties at restaurants nowadays. So, we have no choice but to hold it in our own homes.

But who says our parties have to be boring ones since it’s going to be held only in the house? Watch Party Planner with David Tutera and you’ll find tons of party ideas suitable for your limited budget. You can even substitute the materials that they’re using on the show for cheaper ones that are available to you.

It’s fun watching this show, and it’s worth watching as well! With the Do-It-Yourself party supplies, your child can even help you prepare for his/her very own party!

Miami Ink

July 21, 2008

While my mom finds this particular TLC show quite gruesome, I find Miami ink a very engrossing show. I am not the rock-star type of gal. I don’t even have a tattoo.(and I don’t plan on having one)

What makes this show interesting is the stories behind the tattoos that people are getting. I like the episode where this guy got a tattoo which says “He ain’t heavy he’s my brother”. The guy (I forgot the name) has a brother who is psychologically impaired, but he still loves his sibling as he is. He says that he got the tattoo to show his brother that he doesn’t consider him as a burden, and is not, and will never be, ashamed of his brother. Heck, that episode got me all teary-eyed!

Aside from that, I also love looking at the finished tattoos. Although I could never have enough guts to have one, I will always enjoy looking at other people’s tattoos. The crew of Miami Ink are really talented. This show is worth watching!

The Notebook

July 18, 2008

I caught “The Notebook” on a cable channel a few nights ago. I must say, it’s a real tear-jerker. As usual, it didn’t fail to make my eyes well up with tears.

The movie is an adaptation of the 1996 American romantic novel by Nicholas Sparks. It was shown in theaters in 2004, starring Ryan Gosling as Noah Calhoun opposite Rachel McAdams playing Allie Hamilton.

I really love this movie because I guess, like most hopeless romantics out there, I’ve always wanted (and have already found) someone who will love us unconditionally, in sickness and in health. An A+ movie for those who are so much in love, and those who are still looking for inspiration and a reason to live life and love again.

Behind the Scenes

July 17, 2008

In the name of cinema world, I salute all staffs and crew of the people behind the success of every movie being made.

Most of the time we only put our attention to actors and actresses in a movie. We forget the people who actually makes their consensus effort to form a blockbuster film. The hard work is at the backstage. Each crew, staff, personal assistants, and stunt men have the same significance as the actors and actresses we see in the big screen. We should not belittle them, for without these people, a team will not be called a team. Either in a small or big package, we should not label them for what they can contribute.

For me, directors are the main character in every movie. Just like in a meal, it is the main course. They are the instruments in the portrayal of each actors’ role. Names like George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, James Cameron, Quentin Tarantino are a few of the most-renowned film directors of all time. They have become institutions in the mind of each movie audience. Their significance have greatly influenced the young minds of today. And they serve as inspiration to aspiring directors.

As a movie fan, let us not forget these people behind the limelight. The people who writes, produces and directs are the main ingredient in every movie. We should value according to director’s cut.

Never Back Down

July 14, 2008

When my hubby bought this DVD for us to watch. I was kind of hesitant because of the title. I don’t like action movies. He said it’s about Mixed martial Arts, so that made me think twice. But when we watched it, it was okay. Kind of like the Fast and the Furious 2 Storyline. New boy in town, trying to stay out of trouble. He likes a girl but this girl belongs to his rival. Sounds familiar eh? The fight scenes are great though

sex is comedy review

July 14, 2008

Sex is Comedy brings the audience to an insider view behind-the-scenes and behind closed doors. While this film has a lot of nudity, neither does it struggle to elicit sexual desire nor make believe that what is see is real. The title itself hints how sex is a farce in this movie. This film explores the creativity, collaboration and hard work of the people we normally fail to acknowledge. These people are the ones who make it possible to capture sexual chemistry in film through making an intimate act seem real onscreen. Simply put, Sex is Comedy is a film about filmmaking. The chaos, the pressure and the fickleness of just about everyone including the actors are showcased in this film. From the variety of equipment they use to the kind of shot the scene requires, Sex is Comedy divulges the ins and outs of a film production.
The movie kicks off with a romantic setting for a movie- the beach. Boy and girl kiss while the whole crew is watching. This is where we are presented with the illusions and the reality of filmmaking. We see how an intimate moment can be as frustrating and boring to the ones who help create the scene. It exposes the kind of work a film production calls for and the multitude of factors that can affect a shooting. The props, costume design and background setting are very essential parts of the film since they add convincing powers to the film itself. The movie also revealed the secrets in filmmaking such as the lead actor wearing a prosthetic penis for a sex scene. It just goes to show how sex is never really acted intimately by the actors but more often than not, it is the most dreaded act. How the dialogue is changed and sometimes, rather left unsaid tells so much about how anything can change so quickly depending on what the director feels fit at the moment. It also echoes the worries and complications of a production team. Shooting outside especially at the beach is much more difficult than when the scenes are shot inside a studio. Anything can happen when the script calls for an outside location. The weather conditions are uncontrollable and practically unpredictable. However, the studio is a haven for the director. It can be transformed to anything the script required or whatever the director wants and imagines it to be. But the director’s job is probably the toughest if not the most challenging. The challenge is greater especially for a sex movie since eroticism in teenage love is what Jeanne, or the director in the movie, should deliver to her audience. More than anything else, it is her job to achieve a real moment. This also shows how the scene from the script to the storyboard to the rehearsal itself can still be changed over and over again.
Overall, the film exposes how a film production is no joke. While we watch a film for two hours or less, the amount of time for shooting takes months. Shooting schedules can be affected with almost anything. While it gives the audience a peek into what is really going on, it also tells us that the production design is a challenge. The film lies on its production team to be able to simulate a setting at its most convincing and most importantly, to produce a motion picture work of art.

The Most Awaited “Dark Knight”

July 13, 2008

Another movie of Batman is most awaited in the big screen.Posters at cinema’s entrance labeled it as coming soon. And if you drop by, you just thrilled and got curious.

But watching its trailer is different. The character’s moves and stuns were incredible. The costume is fantastic. On how Batman wears it, makes the character realistic without flaws. The lighting is dramatic as it projects the scene with such moods. The background music is suitable for the trailer. As it gives excitement to the viewer.

When is this be available in cinemas? The most awaited, July 17 in all movie houses.

I think this is different with the previous Batman movies. First, is the title itself. It’s really catchy and you’ll know that it’s an action movie. Based on the trailer, you will not confused the movie with something else. The logo itself reveals that it’s a Batman movie plus the famous enemy of Batman, Joker. And also the traditional Bat mobile runs in the city is unforgettable. It’s just the title gives the thrill.

I’m pretty excited to let that day come.I heard that there are people whom already reserved seats for that upcoming movie.Maybe I should have one to avoid long lines in the ticket booth. This is another blockbuster movie hit.
