Life on the Fab Lane

July 27, 2008

When I’m not doing anything else and I don’t feel like sleeping yet I tune in to the late shows and sometimes catch Life on the Fab Lane. This is a reality show on Kimora Lee Simmons’ life. She is a model, head of Baby Phat clothing line, and a mom of two girls.

I enjoy watching this show because it makes me feel like I’m part of a glamorous group. I really feel like I’m on the show because I know what’s going on behind the counters of the famous Baby Phat.

I like the episode where Kimora was asking Mattel to make a “Kimora Barbie”, and how they really made it into her own image. But, sometimes I feel that she’s too spoiled rotten. (and so are her kids.) But hey, they could afford it, so who cares right?

Mamma Mia

July 27, 2008

A musical based on popular Broadway show featuring songs of the group Abba. A girl is soon to be married and has been trying to find her biological father ever since. She invited the 3 prospective men to her wedding, thinking that taking one look at them would lead her to her dad, only to find out that doing so will only lead her back to zero.

I must say that Meryl Streep did excellent in this movie. She was so cute when she saw the three exes, and she was acting like a shy teen-aged girl. I love the location, and I especially love Pierce Brosnan (I didn’t know he could sing well)! My son also liked watching the show because of the dance songs.

The Story of us

July 25, 2008

Director: Rob Reiner
Tagline: Can a marriage survive 15 years of marriage?
Starring: Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeifer

The story revolves on the marriage of couple Ben and Katie Jordan and how they cope with the everyday challenge of being husband and wife. Ben is a writer and a firm believer of happy endings. He is the happy-go-lucky type. On the other hand, Katie is the organized one, and likes to keep things in her control. She works as a crossword puzzle designer, thus, being meticulous in the smallest details. After 15 years of marriage, they find themselves “falling out of love” with each other, hating the same things that might have brought them together in the past. While their kids are in summer camp, the couple goes into a trial separation.

I like this movie because it is very real in the sense that marriage is not only about love at first sight, and more on the “through thick and thin, in sickness and in health” part. Unlike other movies that give “fairy tale” sense to the audience, this film touches the other side of the story. It brings out the reality. And even though most of the scenes bring sadness (and anger) to the viewers, it still ends on a happy note.

The Dark Knight (R: 2008)

July 24, 2008

Dark Knight Rated R: 2008

Director:
Christopher Nolan
Starring: Christian Bale … Bruce Wayne / Batman; Heath Ledger … The Joker; Aaron Eckhart … Harvey Dent / Two-Face; Michael Caine … Alfred Pennyworth; Maggie Gyllenhaal … Rachel Dawes; Gary Oldman … Lt. James Gordon; Morgan Freeman … Lucius Fox; and many more.

The saga continues and getting better all the time - the costumes, the special effects, the artistry, the acting … all top notch. Especially the Joker. Dark and violent, definitely not for young children. Christian Bale does a great job as batman, but Heath Ledger blows everyone’s acting potential out of the sky with his role as “The Joker” - he had the insane madman down to a “t” and even un-nerved me throughout the movie. One of the best psycho roles I’ve seen. The rest of the cast are excellent as well. Is it time for Batman to retire? I won’t spoil that one for you. This story has some twists and turns leaving you unexpectedly pleased with the outcomes. The tale is about Batman out to eliminate crime in Gotham city and very much being mistaken for a havoc-causing vigilante; but on the side of chief commissioner Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent. However just as they are about to smash out organized crime, the Joker appears as a madman extroadinaire, throwing both the good and the bad into chaos in an attempt to kill Batman, Gordon, and Dent. Rating: 5 stars out of 5. Viewed 7/18/08.

Heath Ledger: The Joker

July 24, 2008

Along with the surfacing lot of super hero flicks, The Dark Knight becomes a box office hit as it opened in last week. Even before it hit the cinemas it has been talked about. Heath Ledger’s death made this movie something to look forward to especially of the fans. Even the Entertainment news has been talking about Heath in his greatest performance in his life. It’s the best Joker performance ever as some of my friend’s who have watched this would comment.

The buss about Heath Ledger performance seems to be making him more of the star than the Batman himself. I think this role is the best he had ever made. Plus his untimely death, The Dark Knight catapulted into the no. 1 spot in box office record. Too bad the buzz of Heath Ledger’s Oscar Award is just too late. He can no longer appreciate it, still his portrayal of Joker is the most gruesome ever and would surely be unparalleled.

The Avatar Series Ends

July 22, 2008

I finally watched the season finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is the ending for Book 3. I was amazed with the way the final battle was fought and it seemed very realistic. Considering it was a cartoon series, the characters were very real and conveyed the emotions needed for every scene.

I have watched the series from the beginning and each episode made me look forward to the next one. I have learned to love its characters especially Aang and Prince Zuko. They came from different nations but in the end, they fought together to bring peace to the whole world.

It is nice for the story to have a happy ending. While the road they traveled was filled with challenges and hardships, they conquered it in the end and eventually put an end to the reign of the Fire Nation.

There have been plans to make a movie adapted from the series and I am so excited to watch it too but it will not be shown until 2010. Well, it is a long wait indeed. Maybe I will just while away time watching the whole cartoon series again. It’s definitely worth watching over and over again.

A Very Special Love

July 22, 2008

I was watching some TV Drama late night when I got to see the trailer of this move called A Very Special Love. It was a light drama with a touch of love story and some comedy on it. The artist were Sarah Geromino and John Lloyd Cruz. Both were good looking and they look good with each other. Sarah here has played a very different role to those she has already portrayed and so does John.

I find the trailer very interesting and I find it so nice. THough it was a light movie I’m sure that there’s a lot of Filipino who are waiting to see this entire movie and this will be a big hit. I was one of those waiting for this and I was excited to see this on JUly 31 in theaters. I know that I’ll have a very wide smile on my face after seeing this movie.

now playing: wall-e

July 22, 2008

disney and pixar’s team up has produced great animated movies such as Cars, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and others. Wall-e is another great product of this team up.

As shown in public trailers of the movie, wall-e is a robot that has developed brain and feelings. he’s been left out here on earth to clean up all the mess that humans have made. its actually very timely coz of the environmental issues these days. the trailer showed a land or our planet filled up with all the trash and and knick-knacks. wall-e discovered a new mission besides collecting these trash when he meets a sleek robot and chased her across the universe. it seem a funny and romantic kind of weird animated movie where love and feelings develop between two robots.

i guess adults too besides kids will surely love this movie.
