“Autumn in New York”

May 25, 2008

I’m not a huge drama / romance person because of the predictable and cheesy endings. Typically, it doesn’t work for me. But, “Autumn in New York” is definitely something a little bit different and refreshing. And, for a romance, it works particularly well.

This is an older movie, staring Richard Greer and Winona Rider. It starts with Richard Greer (Will) who is a New York ‘playboy.’ While he is heading on 50, he is known throughout New York as a womanizer. This is one that he gains his reputation by through his fame in magazines such as “Time” which caused his rise through his well known restaurant. His success, money and love for the women doesn’t stop from his change in fate when he meets Winona Rider (Charlotte), a young woman who he quickly falls in love with. The only problem is that she is dying from a heart tumor.

The movie goes on to be a great love story between the two, with continuous tension with wondering if Charlotte will live to the next day or not. In the end, it turns into a fantastic love story, and definitely moving. It’s something I would recommend for anyone to watch.

Not only is the twist in the plot something that is really great, but the acting and the approach towards the entire plot works flawlessly. Everything ties together in a way that is unexpected and expected at the same time. This is definitely a movie that is touching, fun and a high class.
