“Cloverfield”
May 20, 2008
“Cloverfield” is rated PG-13 for violence, terror and disturbing images and available on DVD. The movie is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, TJ Miller, Michael Stahl-David, Odette Yustman and Mike Vogel.
I decided to try this movie from Blockbuster after hearing from a friend that it was so good. I am a little hesitant of scary movies at times, but decided to give “Cloverfield” a try anyway.
“Cloverfield” started out with a sense of mystery and intrigue. The captioning in the movie, immediately peaked my curiosity. Next, the movie moves to a party for someone that is going away to Japan as vice president of a company. About half way through the party, it was time to get a refill on my juice and stretch a bit.
The entire basis of the movie is a guy documenting what is happening the night before the other character goes to Japan. The city is attacked. This movie could have been written, acted and shown in about twenty minutes time. I jumped once and that was about the thrill of the scary part.
The movie received a fairly high rating and may be for some, but overall I would give “Cloverfield” a thumbs down and am glad I got it as a free rental.
