What do you get when you add a desperate need for money and quest for faster breeding cattle? A horrifyingly infectious mutation in rural Ireland!
Dan, a farmer in a remote part of Ireland, is on the verge of losing his cattle farm. He agrees to let a scientist inject one of his cows with a growth serum. Late one night, the cow goes into labor and Dan can’t get a hold of the vet or the scientist. He goes to Jamie and Mary, a couple on the run from her family who is staying illegally on Dan’s land, for help. Jamie goes with Dan, they deliver the calf, who is horribly mutated. The newborn calf bites Dan’s hand. Later, the vet shows up and after killing the calf and storing it in another part of the barn, leaves. Hours later, the vet comes back to the farm, unknown to anyone else and gives the dead calf an examination. She finds out the calf had been born pregnant but with what? Sometime before the vet came back, whatever the calf was carrying had gotten out and was now loose on the farm. The vet starts looking and then the scene changes.
The others on the farm find out a monster had been born and Jamie is attacked by it. The scientist comes back and tells them that no one can leave the farm now, everyone there could be infected, like the vet was. They find the vet’s body and now they are searching the farm for the monster. They can’t find anything while its dark so, Jamie and Mary go back to their motor home and make love, not knowing that Jamie is now infected.
The scientist decides to take matters into his own hand and kills Jamie to prevent the spread of the infection. He tries to kill Mary, who wasn’t attacked and the scientist dies instead. Now, its up to Dan and Mary to kill the monster. Dan dies to save Mary and she finishes the monster off and walks off the farm.
The last scene takes place about 3 months later, in a doctors office with Mary getting an ultrasound of her baby. The doctor assures her the baby is fine but is it really?
