Juno

April 24, 2008

junoposter21.jpgThe heart-warming Independent film “Juno” took 2007 by storm. Ellen Page plays the quirky high school student who faces an unexpected pregnancy. In a difficult enough world, Juno stays true to her humor and independence. Instead of terminating the pregnancy, the witty teen chooses to search for people to adopt her unborn baby.

Through Penny Saver advertisements, Juno meets Mark and Vanessa Loring (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner). As Juno’s pregnancy progresses, she spends more time with the Lorings and discovers some of the secret complexities life has to offer.

“Juno” is filled with touching scenes and loveable characters. It’s one of the only teenage pregnancy films which will leave you feeling good and uplifted. One impressionable scene was when Bren (Allison Janney) confronts Juno’s condescending ultrasound technician. “You think you’re special because you play picture pages up there?” She says. “My five-year-old daughter could do that, and let me tell you, she isn’t the brightest bulb in the tanning bed.”

Excellent humor, dialog, and acting makes the movie stand out against the backdrop of so many other forgettable films. Similar to the main character herself, “Juno” is uniquely smart and independent.
