American Gangster
March 29, 2008
Another Denzel Washington movie ehh… but here’s the kicker it’s with Russel Crowe. Two top notch A-listers in a movie together. Russel Crowe was riveting in Gladiator, and just as riveting in American Gangster. Denzel Washington has mesmorized us for years. His acting has ranged from playing the controversial Malcolm X to a grieving father driven to take matters into his own hands in John Q. Both these men together translated into a A plus movie.
A true story about Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) who took over a drug empire after his boss’s death (Bumpy Johnson) and took it to another level. His brothers followed him into this lifestyle until Richie Roberts (Russel Crowe) crumbles the empire down to rubble. This is a story about a man who took his destiny into his own hands and how another man justifiably takes it away.
Frank is a saavy business man, his business is dealing drugs. He loves his family but is not immune to disciplining a cousin, or brother when they display “Larry and Moe” type behavior. He’s respectful and loving towards his wife and mother while still maintaining his reputation as a ruthless killer and a formidable enemy.
Richie Roberts is a detective who is painlessly honest and finds nearly a million dollars, and instead of following the footsteps of his co-workers (crooked cops) he turns it in. This may give him brownie points with Mother Theresa and The Pope but he gets no cigars from his so called buddies. No on wants to work with an honest cop.. it’s unheard of. Forced to go out on his own he assembles a team of an off beat posse to take down Frank and his crew. I won’t tell you anymore than this because you must see this movie.
A very powerful production put on by two stand up guys. Another standing ovation for Denzel and Russel. Awesome.

When my husband first brought this movie home, I wasn’t too sure about it. I read what it was about and thought it would be like all of the other psychic movies out there. I did like the Actors/Actresses that were in it. I was ready to be bored out ofmy mind when he put it on though.
To my surprise, I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was well thought out. It was different than most of the psychic movies and we both enjoyed it a great deal. There were twists in it the I also enjoyed. The ending was well thought out and surprised me.
Overall, I think that I would give this movie a two thumbs up. I would definately recommend it!
Actors:
Nicholas Cage
Julianne Moore
Jessica Biel

Is Sir Ian McKellen doing The Hobbit?
March 27, 2008
According to the Film Guardian, Sir Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in the Lord of The Rings series, has agreed to do another Tolkien movie with Peter Jackson. Apparently, he confirmed this during an email exchange among his fans, which took place on his official website.
Q: So has it come to pass, good Sir McKellen? Shall the dreaming masses with their musty books and their blackened pipes at long last hear those immortal words issue from under that famous nose? “Yes, yes, my dear sir-and I know your name, Mr. Bilbo Baggins. And you do know my name, though you don’t remember that I belong to it. I am Gandalf, and Gandalf means me! To think I should have lived to be good-morninged by Belladonna Took’s son, as if I was selling buttons at the door!” Looking about, I find I share the same hopes as millions of others, so I ask, a single query in a chorus… Will you again be our Gandalf in “The Hobbit” now that the deal is settled?
A: Yes I will, if Peter Jackson and I have anything to do with it, he being the producer and me being, on the whole, a very lucky actor. I’ve just read your quote out loud - fabulous speech.
It’s more or less a given. If Peter Jackson doesn’t drop out of the project, then McKellen as Gandalf should return.
And I’m pretty sure that would make millions of fans of the previous trilogy very, very happy.

Iron Man TV Spot
March 26, 2008
Has anybody scene the latest Iron Man TV Spot?
The movie is one of the most anticipated story this summer. It is starred by Robert Downey, Jr. in a role he hasn’t done before. I don’t quite see him as a superhero yet. Maybe this film will convince me.
Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie opens May 2, 2008.

The Game Plan 2007
March 26, 2008
The Game Plan stars Dwayne , “THE ROCK” Johnson, as Joe Kingman.
Joe is a tough quarterback for a major NFL team. He has taken many hard hits and surprise tackles in his day, but nothing knocks the wind out of him like finding out he has an 8 year old daughter ( Madison) he never knew existed! Kyra Sedgwick ( A.K.A. Mrs. Kevin Bacon for you trivia buffs), plays Joe’s Hard-nosed agent. She goes right into spin mode to make sure this new development does not derail Joe’s career.
The movie is mostly the formula you have seen before,,,,Bachelor has no idea how to take care of a kid,,,,bachelor slowly learns with many comedic moments,,,Bachelor finally gets the hang of it. But as with most formula movies, they become a formula because THEY WORK. These kind of movies always make you feel good in the end. What I did NOT EXPECT is for a movie starring “THE ROCK” to make me cry. So be prepared for some tear jerker moments!
This is a good family or date night movie. It will touch the hearts of any parent or grandparent. And ladies, it would make a good date night flick, as well as a good test of your man’s heart. If he does not at least look like he is trying not to tear up, he might not have a heart. ,,,Just my opinion!
I do not want to give too much away, but it may be worth watching this movie just to see The Rock… sing, play guitar, and do ballet?!
The Game Plan is rated PG for some thematic elements and runs 110 minutes. It is out on DVD now and was made by Walt Disney Pictures
“Lost in Translation” (2003)
March 26, 2008
“Lost in Translation” stars Scarlett Johansson as Charlotte, a graduate in philosophy from Yale. Her husband John, played by Giovanni Ribisi, is a celebrity photographer and Charlotte has accompanied him to Tokyo. John is caught up in his work so much that Charlotte feels unheard and very lonely. Sometimes she feels invisible.
While in Tokyo, Charlotte meets Bob Harris, played by Bill Murray. Bob is an American actor who is starring in a Japanese commercial. His marriage is rocky and he’s not very enthusiastic about doing the commercial. Both Charlotte and Bob are at a crossroads in their lives and aren’t sure what they want to do or the direction they want to go.
As Bob, the middle aged man and Charlotte, a much younger woman, become close and start to hang out a lot, the viewer may assume the relationship will turn into a steamy affair. The innuendos are subtle, which gives more impact than the blatant and common script we often see in films. The two have a close bond and often it’s unspoken, but somehow they are able to meet each other’s needs.
This is a rather slow-moving movie. It won’t draw in the adventurous, but I found it to be enjoyable. The scenery and glimpse into Japanese life was nice. This is a movie you need to watch to the end and retrace backward to get the full impact.
Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy in Wanted
March 26, 2008
I recently saw the trailer for Angelina Jolie’s latest film, “Wanted”, for release in the summer…and it is pretty kick-ass. The film is loosely based on a comic book by Mark Millar, about a team of assassins.
James McAvoy, the actor who played this creature on Chronicles of Narnia (Thomas was it?), plays Wesley, a regular office worker who is unfortunately bullied by everyone in his life. Unknowingly, his murdered father worked as an assassin and now his team is recruiting Wesley. Apparently, his a natural. Not every assassin has this gift like him. Angelina Jolie’s character is his mentor. The film also stars Morgan Freeman as the head of the group.
Stellar casting, eh?
The film opens in the end of June in the States.

Horton Hears A Who
March 26, 2008
I had no prior orientation to any of Dr. Seuss’ books. I cannot remember reading this as a child, unfortunately. So I had no expectations about the movie, coming inside the theater.
The voices were pretty good. I love Steve Carell anyway, so I felt he was perfect for this. And Jim Carrey as Horton? He brought personality to it.
The story served a valuable life lesson. I can’t help but be sappy about it towards the end. If I had to rate this, it would be right up there with Finding Nemo, in terms of redeeming value and moral lessons. It’s the kind you would really want your kids to pay attention to, so that they can pick up something valuable.
What hurt the movie? The singing of “Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore” towards the end. Albeit, it was meant to be humorous, it just felt out of place really.
