“Chain Reaction”

February 26, 2008

“Chain Reaction” is directed by Andrew Davis and rated PG-13 for some intense action and violence.

Keanu Reeves plays Eddie Kasalivich, who is involved with a team, in a ground-breaking scientific experiment, which will produce a pollution-free energy source. He finds himself surrounded by secret government cover-ups, espionage and even murder. Dr. Lily Sinclair, played by Rachel Weisz, is part of his team.

Once the source of energy is developed, the laboratory and also much of the surrounding area, even blocks away, is destroyed. The effects would have you to believe there was a nuclear explosion.

Eddie and Lily become the main suspects. They hope Paul Shannon, played by Morgan Freeman, will be on their side. He’s a secretive man and they aren’t sure which side to believe he’s on.

Eddie and Dr. Sinclair are framed and everyone is out to get them. They are on the run while trying to figure out who wants to stop their project and why.

Reeves and Weisz play well against each other and you get a sense of chemistry between the two, although no love story is played out. This isn’t Freeman’s best performance, but he certainly adds to the movie.

“Chain Reaction” has action, thrills and some good visual effects, but some may get lost with the plot. Overall, it’s a good movie, but not exceptional. I give a 4 out of 5 stars.
