“Half Light” (2006)
February 21, 2008
Rachel Carlson, played by Demi Moore is a successful novelist. She is more than devastated when her young son Thomas played by Beans El-Balawi, accidentally drowns. Her marriage to husband Brian, played by Henry Ian Cusick, is falling apart. She needs a peaceful atmosphere to find a way to heal and rest. A friend prompts her to go to a seaside cottage on the Scottish coast.
The village has a charm all its own and the surroundings are beautiful, including the lighthouse that holds many mysteries. Rachel becomes confused as to what is real and what she may be imagining as strange things start to happen. Her deceased son begins to send her messages that she’s in danger and she starts to question her sanity.
Rachel befriends the handsome lighthouse keeper Angus, played by Hans Matheson. They become very close and eventually make love. To her great surprise, while waiting for him to arrive at a birthday party in the village, she is told Angus died years ago.
“Half Light” is rated R and an excellent movie, full of suspense, romance, mystery and superb acting by Demi Moore. The soundtrack with beautiful Celtic music is equally riveting. I give a 5 out of 5 star rating.
