If you are a Denzel Washington fan, this movie is a must see. “Out of Time” stars Eva Mendes, Sanaa Lathan, Dean Cain (who played the television version of Super Man), Tony Dalton and John Billingsley. Categorized as a crime, drama, thriller, the movie is rated PG-13 for some sexual content, violence and language.
Denzel Washington portrays, Matt Whitlock, a small town chief of police. While going through the procedure of a divorce from his wife Alex (Mendes), he finds himself involved with a married woman, Ann Harrison (Lathan), whom he believes is being physically abused by her husband, Chris Harrison (Cain).
Matt’s feelings for Ann start to grow very deeply. When he soon discovers she has terminal cancer, he wants to do whatever he can to help her. When the opportunity of an expensive treatment is brought to his attention, he reluctantly offers to “borrow” some money obtained in a criminal bust. The money just happens to be tucked away in the safe in his very own police station. This sets the wheels in motion for a lot of twists and turns in the plot.
A double murder in this quiet little coastal town draws a lot of attention and the police chief soon becomes the prime suspect. The suspense begins as he must keep a step ahead of the rest of the police force, his own colleagues, to avoid suspicion being placed on him. He must also try to recover and return the money before being caught, with his own soon-to-be-ex wife watching over him as the chief investigator.
Not knowing who to believe and who to trust before time runs out, keeps Denzel Washington and the movie viewer on the edge of their seats. This movie turns into a fast-paced, who-done-it, as you try to figure out who the bad guys are, while the mystery unfolds. An excellent movie for an hour and 45 minutes of entertainment. A 4 out of 5 stars.
