Transformers
July 4, 2007
Opening the 4th of July week is Transformers. Much like other blockbuster movies that opened Independence Day, Transformers packs a lot of action and fun all about 2 and a half hours.
Fans of the cartoon will notice some changes to their beloved autobots. The biggest difference is that autobot Bumblebee is not a Volkswagon Beetle but a sleek Chevy Camaro. Fans will hopefully understand the creative license of the movie makers and enjoy the movie because it is a lot of fun.
Transformers has a lot of action but also a lot of humor. You really become endeared to the autobots, who are trying to stop Megatron and the Deceptors from getting their metallic hands on a very powerful cube that they want to use to destroy the world. Autobot Bumblebee befriends a teenage boy who unknowingly holds the key that will reveal the cube’s location to Megatron.
The movie has plenty of action sequences that go by pretty fast. This will definitely be one to see again to catch all of the action. It is cool to see the autobots transform from vehicles to towering robots.
I’ve never watched the Transformers cartoon, so from a non-fan point of view, I thought the movie did well with the backstory of the Transformers and their purpose. The movie also jumped right into showing the alien robots, so movie goers will not have to wait long for their first appearance.
Overall, Transformers was very enjoyable and great entertainment. It’s full of action mixed with a good dose of humor. Taking it in for a matinee will ensure a good deal that is well worth the price of admission.
