Factory Girl - not working
March 31, 2007
Factory Girl takes a look at the short life of Edie Sedgwick but fails miserably to capture her or any spirit of the 60’s and the Warholian scene. Sienna Miller makes a particularly unconvincing doomed, ethereal beauty to Guy Pearse’s deadpan Warhol. One leaves the movie feeling that the story has been simplified and dimmed so much for mainstream cinema it does none of the original participants justice.
Fur - One freaky, furry movie
March 26, 2007
Just saw the movie Fur, which is a seriously, strange production based on imaginary events in the life of the world renowned photographer Diane Arbus. Decidely odd but great acting from (a very hairy) Downey Jr and Nicole Kidman -their brief sex scene is strikingly good - raw and realistic so unlike most movie sex. Somehow this brave and highly imaginative movie seems to have captured the artist and her work really well. A slow movie that floats rather than flows but is refreshingly different.

300 (R, 2007) Directed by Zack Snyder and based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C.

Rated R for graphic battle sequences throughout, some sexuality and nudity.
An amazing epic tale of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. when Persia and it’s immortal army tried to take Sparta. Based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel telling of a magical historical battle of 300 Spartans up against tens of thousands of ogre-like Immortals and beast slaves of the Persian God-King Xerxes.
From defiance to adultery, from deceipt to ignorance, from pride to humility, the mythic race of Spartans, trained from birth as warriors, followed by their progeny, disregard Persia’s request to submit to the Persian world empire. With magic and sorcery, spears and shields, a tremendous battle takes place between the Spartans and the Persians to prevent their entry into Greece. This is a must-see movie. Rating: 5 stars out of 5.
Opening week: While I was amongst the first to see its opening date, the lines were not too bad even for the opening matinee, but the crowds are filling the theaters. Spine tingling, exciting, edge of your seat stuff.
