Wow!!! all I can really emphasize is “Wow!” Of course, I have a bias as I’m a big zombie fan, but the music and performance of “Zombie Girl” at this years (2006) Colorado Dark Arts Festival made my year … I was blown away and couldn’t stop dancing. Right up my alley and a band I intend to follow … mesmerizing … entertaining … captivating. Visit them at Myspace or their web site and check out their tunes. Of course, their live performance cannot compete with their music tracks. Out of Canada (of course!), Zombie Girl is the new and exciting band of the famous Sebastian R. Komor (ICON OF COIL, BRUDERSCHAFT, MOONITOR, MONOFADER, MUSCLE AND HATE) with his wife Renee Cooper-Komor as the alluring and bewitching vocalist. Their new CD is out “Back from the Dead” and believe me … its worth adding to your collection. Review Rating of a 5 out of 5.

Deviant put on a great performance at the Church for this years (2006) Colorado Dark Arts Festival. I haven’t seen them since the SLC Dark Arts Festival a few years back. Performing their favorites and some from their recent album, they even experimented with some new stuff which had a couple of retakes, but they overcame the incident and still kept us dancing and captivated. Deviant was formed in 2002 by vocalist/lyricist London, and the multi-talented musicians D’MacKinnon and Marcus Wilkerson in Denver meshing together rock guitar riffs, electronic melodies, and driving industrial drums creating their electro-rock presence that has been creating a large following in the Goth scene. Absenta was their first album release receiving praise from DJ’s, college radio, and the underground scene. Deviant won 3 awards at the 2003 Colorado Underground music awards and several tracks off of “Absenta” have been featured in films such as “Throttle” and appeared on compilation albums with other bands. They have since released “Drain You” and “Masochism” CDs as well and are in the works on their next CD. Review Rating of a 4 out of 5.

The Prince And Me 2

May 29, 2006

Before I reveiw this movie, I should explain that in Yantai, English-language DVDs can be a bit hard to find.

The plot of the first movie, The Prince And Me, is a sweet Cinderella story about Paige, a pre-med nerd, and the prince of Denmark, in disguise as an exchange student. It’s not Oscar material, but it’s a fun, giggly two hours. In the second movie, Paige and the Prince (now the King) are about to be married when a Disreputable Distant Cousin comes across an ancient law requiring the Danish king to marry another royal. A Norwegian princess appears, who happens to be the King’s oldest and dearest friend, although mention of her existance is missing from the first movie. You really can’t blame the King for a little confusion, with their matching blonde haircuts and and identical figures, Paige and the princess of Norway are indistinguishable when wearing sunglasses.

The actors were clearly cast for their ability to do a respectable Danish accent, and not their ability to act.

After a series of unfunny gags and an unintentionally funny rivalry between the two ladies (Paige introduces a piano concert, then the Princess upstages her by being the first soloist. But future doctor Paige gets the last laugh when a random woman collapses and she correctly diagnoses a fainting spell.), Paige and her nameless college friends search for a loophole in the ancient law. All the best lawyers in Denmark are searching too, but it’s only Paige who finds the answer is a 13th century book of Danish law, written in English and kept in a damp and unlit underground archive.

You know, I can overlook having a jar of Poison Ivy Extract, clearly labeled and badly hidden in one’s room. I can also ignore that the future Queen of Denmark doesn’t have to be Danish or royalty, merely able to read the Danish constitution. But original manuscripts CAN NOT be stored in a leaking basement!

X-Men 3: The Last Stand Cuts Down The Competition

May 28, 2006

X3 did even better than expected for the Memorial Day weekend, coming in at $107 million for the three day weekend. This lands it at the #1 spot for highest gross ever amounted for holiday and fourth in for the amount grossed in 3 days overall.

The expectation was high especially from the action packed previews that have been showing online and off for months now. The powers that be have declared that this is the third and final installment in the X-Men series but have said that their could be spinoffs such as Storm or Wolverine.

Alternative progressive art rock.
Based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado; This self proclaimed “post toolian progressive art rock band” are an up and coming talent and sound. Still at the grassroots level, and inspired by otherworldly craziness, the band is starting to creep out of the darkness into the light of the human world, mesmerizing the spirit with their unique enchanting sound. Visiting their May 2006 show at the “Dead Ant Tavern” in Colorado Springs - I was impressed with what I saw and hearn and can see a future being woven for this band in the near future. They have a good outlook and a promising future. While I was simply attracted to their show by the appearance of the mystical and rare image of the Elven Star, I was awarded with a nice evening of good vibes. Rating: 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

One of America’s famous historical ghost stories is told on the big screen … based on the true story of the only case in US history where a ghost caused the death of a man. Based in 1818, this classic retelling with some modern ancestral carry-over, is a fabulously well done, well crafted, scary movie within a classic horror context. Elements of the Exorcist, Amityville, and the Crucible … this movie will stun you. Its the story of John Bell who supposedly gets cursed by his witch-of-a-neighbor, but only turns out to be tormented by the poltergeist that seeks revenge for other horrors he created. One of the best ghost story films out there. Must see! Rating: 5 stars out of 5.

The DaVinci Code (PG-13: 2006)

May 27, 2006

My rating: 2 out of 5

the DaVinci Code (PG-13: 2006)

Directed by Ron Howard. Starring: Tom Hanks …. Robert Langdon, Audrey Tautou …. Sophie Neveu, Ian McKellen …. Sir Leigh Teabing, Jean Reno …. Captain Fache, Paul Bettany …. Silas, Alfred Molina …. Bishop Aringarosa

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382625/

One of America’s most controversial films in 2006 (so far) causing much distress with the Catholic Church. A scholar is murdered but strings himself out in DaVinci’s famous pentagram pose with secrets leading to an ancient order and a code hidden in art and artifacts revealing the mysteries of Jesus and Mary being married and exposing the Church’s great secret of trying to hide the sacred feminine divine so revered in Paganism. I have to admit though in comparison to the book and other writings, this film is in no way an artpiece. In fact, I nearly fell asleep. Recommend waiting till dvd. Rating: 2 stars out of 5.

Evil Kane is out to make sure you do not “See” the evils of the world and collects your eyes. He has a twisted plot in order to build his collection. With reminescence of “Psycho”, Kane will torture and torment you. He’s especially got a fascination with religious tattoos and that leads to a special surprise. Trapped in an abandoned classic hotel, he’s slowly picking off the juv-teens working to clean up their act and the mess that is the hotel. Elements of the typical psycho-killer horror story with some elements to disturb your mind.
