The 40 Year Old Virgin
April 10, 2006
The 40 Year Old Virgin was funny. Not uproariously so, but enough to brighten up a lazy Saturday afternoon.
Steve Carrell, Daily Show regular and titular virgin, did a great job. Gotta give him credit for the chest-waxing scene, which was real. Pretty impressive — first, that anyone is so hirsute, and second, that Steve was brave enough to allow his ample chest hair to be waxed into a smiley face.
Speaking of hair, my impression of the movie was slightly altered by the final scene, a Hair-inspired musical that featured cast members singing and prancing around in what looked like togas. A little disturbing. It reminded me of the ending of one of the Austin Powers films — a similar (and equally unnecessary) music video type of thing.
Anyway, overall, it as good. Forgettable, sure, but fun while it lasted. I give it 6 out of 10 stars.
