Mirrormask
October 15, 2005
I was really anticipating Mirrormask, and it did not fail to deliver. At first, I didn’t really get what I was kind of expecting, which was fine. From the previews it looked like it was going to be full of lush animation. As it begins, it’s a regular movie. But then, gradually more and more of the movie unfolds inside of the drawings, illustrations, and head of the main character.
This movie is a real trip into the head of an artist and _is_ lushly animated. Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman really did a great job realizing a world of imagination that has not only has a pretty solid plot but is a visual delight. It’s pretty much like visual crack for artists.
