Saw II (R: 2005) Starring: Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Donnie Wahlberg, Erik Knudsen, Franky G Directed by: Darren Lynn Bousman Produced by: Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, Oren Koules Well here is the waited for sequel to “Saw: the Movie” - much in the same, it’s a complete continuation of the first. It was good, but nothing extroadinary. Serial Killer “Jigsaw” Is at it again, this time tracking out those affected by the life of a detective he’s got it in for. It certainly adds to the madness with a game of survival as you’d expect. Nothing shocking about the conclusion. But you’ll have to see it for yourself. I’d wait for DVD though if I could do it all over again. Give it a 3 stars out of 5. |

Van Sant’s Last Days, or Sleeping Pills? Either will do.
October 28, 2005
I really, really wanted to like this movie. I’ve seen the documentary ‘Kurt and Courtney’ and was a huge fan of Nirvana back in the day.
But this … this is supposed to be Kurt Cobain’s final hours?
No, more like, one overrated director’s, just, like, opinion, man. (Big Lebowski reference, anyone?)
The film started off with Blake (the Cobain-esque character) wandering around the forest outside of his hillside mansion. He then proceeded to venture down to the river / stream nearby, disrobe (not completely, ladies), and have himself a pee. Deep, man. So deep.
And yes, I get the possible Siddhartha / Buddha reference, but it was too painfully slow, boring and just trying way too hard to be deep for my tastes.
All in all, I couldn’t even finish the thing. Maybe it heats up near the end and there are some car chases or something (kidding…. :)), but the first 30 minutes nearly put me to sleep.

I know there are quite a few X-Men fanatics out there; I happen to be one of them. I just wanted to give you guys some pages to access so that you can get as excited about the movie as I am. It is going to be awesome:
This is a link to the IMDb, and it has a pretty comprehensive list of the actors/actresses in X3 and other information:

Here’s a list of most of the X-Men characters and their descriptions on Wikipedia (I could spend several hours reading these articles):

SERENITY (R: 2005) A movie theater version of the Sci-Fi Channel’s great series: Firefly. It answers much of that which was left-off and filled in the gaps to the series that went under for whatever reason. Incredible effects and plot, i give it a 5 stars out of 5. Viewed October 2005. Great movie, highly recommended - must see. Rating 5 stars out of 5. |

The Fog Released: 2005 Rated R Starring: Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, Selma Blair, DeRay Davis, Kenneth Welsh |
Here it finally is, the remake of that horror classic of John Carpenter’s … “The Fog”. Story takes place off the coast of Oregon, where a hundred years ago a land deal went crooked and all the settlers who were moving to the island were brutally murdered and robbed after being secured a new home. A hundred years later, the past is dredged up, and the unrested spirits have vengeance on the mind - magically blended into the fog … the innocent weather pattern becomes frightening. An excellent tale and a great continuation from the original. 3 stars out of 5.
Mirrormask
October 15, 2005
I was really anticipating Mirrormask, and it did not fail to deliver. At first, I didn’t really get what I was kind of expecting, which was fine. From the previews it looked like it was going to be full of lush animation. As it begins, it’s a regular movie. But then, gradually more and more of the movie unfolds inside of the drawings, illustrations, and head of the main character.
This movie is a real trip into the head of an artist and _is_ lushly animated. Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman really did a great job realizing a world of imagination that has not only has a pretty solid plot but is a visual delight. It’s pretty much like visual crack for artists.
Serenity
October 15, 2005
This review does not ruin the movie.
Serenity is based off of Firefly, an old tv show that was cancelled. Dvd sales of the show allowed for a movie to be made and they did not scrimp the edges in this one. Great special effects, fantastic storyline and a soundtrack that adds to the feel. If you loved the TV show, you will love this too. My suggestion is, before you see the movie, watch a few episodes of the show so you know what your getting into and get to know some of the characters. It adds to the feel of the movie. Oh, and, see it in theatre. It’s something that’s worth that bit of extra money. I’m going to see it again.
Rating: 10/10, quite possibly the best movie I have ever seen.
Domino Looks Like it May Tumble
October 13, 2005
When I saw the trailer for the movie Domino, I got excited. I might still have been excited had I not read this review. I get a sneaking suspicion that Domino will be a let down.
The movie is based on a true story. Domino Harvey is the daughter of an actor. She works as a model, but eventually, she decides to try a new career as a bounty hunter, hunting down criminals.
In a review I read, the critic claims that the movie is not successful as a good action film or a character study; it lacks any real depth. It does not adhere very well to the true story. Also, the novel camera work and the interesting lenses and coloration are used in an attempt to be edgy, but it is distracting from the film. He says that the film may have some fans, but on the whole, the movie will not impress.

I may wait to see this one as a rental, especially since I have about 1,000 bags of popcorn here at home, and I need to schedule a few movie events to put a dent in my inventory.
