War of the Worlds

I saw Spielburg’s latest flick yesterday and the more i think about the film, the more i don’t understand. the beginning of the movie was for comedic pleasure and showed the relationship between cruise’s character and his kids. the part where cruise stepped out of the house and noticed people staring at the sky reminded me of independence day, where will smith stepped out of the house and noticed people staring at the sky. some parts were predictable as well.
there were a lot of parts which needed some explaining. for those who haven’t seen the movie, i suggest you close this window for THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. Here are a couple of things i don’t understand:
1. how did the van NOT get crushed by the airplane that crashed on the house?
2. if the aliens needed to harvest human blood to survive, why did they shoot beams at people and turn them to ashes at the beginning?
3. did the machines have veins containing blood on them as well? they basically started drying out when the birds pecked at them.
Spielburg. I enjoy your work, but you need some ’splainin to do. I did enjoy the movie, and recommend it. the visual effects were outstanding, and the acting and storyline were great.

I was expecting the little girl to say,”There heeeerrrrre.”
The powers behind the movie said it was an allegory on the Iraq War with the aliens being the USA. I didn’t see that in the movie. They were stretching, I think.
The nod to the original movie at the end was too cute. The grandparents were the stars of the first movie.
All in all, I recommend folks watch the radio version.
